I was filming Japanese actress and model Ayumi in front of a shuttered shop door. An aggressive stranger and spectator at the back was directing us with shouts of “Closer!”, “Bigger Smile!”, “More To The Center!”. Quite distracting but that is the nature of shooting in the streets. So after getting the shots, we confronted him and asked him what his problem was.
Cornered, he turned out to be a soft-spoken, meek and nice guy . He works in the ikan bilis (sun-dried anchovies) shop opposite and was bored out of his skull since it was his day off.
In the movie business, the pseudonym “Alan Smithee”, was used when crediting a film director anonymously. Usually, is because the director disowned it after completion or abandoned it halfway due to disatisfaction, creative differences or quarrel with the studio.
