Chevrolet Malaysia and Naza Quest launched the new Chevrolet Sonic yesterday. With a 1.4 litre engine, the Sonic is available as a sedan (RM 76,888) or hatchback version (RM 78,888). 100,000 units were sold worldwide since its introduction in January 2012. Olympic medalist Pandelela Rinong Pamg was honoured with a Sonic, making the 19-year-old the first owner in Malaysia.

Pandelela Launches The New Chevrolet Sonic
Under a hail of flickering camera flash lights, Pandelela Rinong gives the thumbs-up like a true celebrity. She was launching the new Chevrolet Sonic at the National Aquatic Centre. With her is Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek (Minister of Youth and Sports) and Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri Nasiniuddin (Group Joint Executive Chairman and CEO of Naza Group of Companies).
I felt it was quite a poignant moment, considering that this is the very venue she trained daily on her long journey to Olympic victory and stardom.

Pandelela Rinong Pamg
I was photographing Pandelela Rinong Pamg by the pool when she pulled out her phone and asked if I can snap her with it. Was happy to oblige, of course.
The London 2012 Olympics bronze medalist is still the humble and polite teen even though she is now the celebrated athlete. She’s also the country’s first female Olympic medal winner and our first female flag bearer at an Olympics opening parade.
In conjunction with the launch of the Chevrolet Sonic at National Aquatic Centre, Pandelela was presented with the keys to the new car.
