Olympus launched their new flagship compact, the XZ-1 and new Micro 4/3 Pen E-PL2 this morning. Here are some sample still images captured with the new XZ-1 camera. The announced retail price of the XZ-1 in Malaysia is RM 1799 (app USD 585). The underwater housing for the XZ-1 (PT 050) is quoted as RM 1090 (app USD 354) and the underwater housing for the E-PL2 (PT-EP03) is RM 2090 (app USD 680).
Firmware version is 0.9 and all settings at factory default. No post-adjustments made except size reduction & cropping. Images saved at 50% jpeg compression for web.












Nanomatrix, I believe the leaves on ISO3200 shot was facing upwards, while the veiny part was hidden underneath. For some reasons the leaves were shot in the reversed direction, bottom part facing upwards, showing the veins in ISO6400. Do correct me if I am wrong here.
The camera shown in pics 2 to 4 above looks like an E-PL2 not an XZ-1.

Lens does look soft and NR is little high. specs are impressive.
I’m surprised that the veins on the leaves show up better on the 6400 iso shots than they do on the 3200 iso.
Is the video so crappy (look at the grass) because of youtube, or because of the MJPEG format that Olympus chose?
