Ubudiah Mosque

The iconic, royal Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar is rarely seen as a silhouette. Understandably so, since it is a beautiful landmark when brightly lit. When I see a hazy sun, I see opportunity. Exposing for the sun created a nice and rarely seen silhouette of the multiple domes and minarets. The green filter was commonly used during film photography days. Coloured gels/filters designed for black and white film were used with  colour films for effects.

Built in 1917, Masjid Ubudiah was designed by architect Arthur Benison Hubback. He is also known for his Moorish designs of the Ipoh & KL Railway stations and Masjid Jamek.

White Mosque Of Phnom Penh

I was sailing to Tonle Sap in Cambodia when this beautiful white mosque appeared. It was bathed in sunlight while the surrounding riverine village was shaded under clouds. It wasn’t easy nailing the exposure on a shaky boat but I’m quite happy with the results.

Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in South-East Asia and the area is rightfully designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. My journey began on the mighty Mekong in Phnom Penh and ended near Siem Reap where Angkor Wat is.

Love Grows Sweeter With Age?

Love Birds Sightseeing At Rejang Mosque. Understanding the vintage / retro / aging filters on Snapseed, Instagram and other apps. What does it do? It de-saturates and alters the colours to mimic a faded print. It adds scratches, dust, dirt and vignetting. Does it work with every image? No. Use it only when you intend to convey a certain look or to create a sense of time. Don’t use it just because it is there.
