Merdeka!

Radiant and glorious. A little tattered around the edges but otherwise good. Happy 56th Independence Day, Malaysia.

Standing at about 95 meters (311 feet) tall, the giant flag is a little tricky to photograph from the ground. To appreciate its sheer size, look at the birdcage at the tip of the mast. It can hold several maintenance workers. It takes quite a bit of wind to lift it and when it does, it flutters with a graceful slow-motion effect. A beautiful sight in the morning sun.

There Must Be An Angel Playing With Your Heart

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, in an enchanted forest, there lived an angel with a big heart. In this modern version, the leaves are LEDs, the forest is i-City and the heart drawn by my assistant and model, Carmen.

This shot was done with her drawing the heart with a pair of LED lights held in each hand. We tried the LED light from two Samsung phones and it worked just as well. It should also work with torch-lights, glow sticks and sparklers.

The tricky part was figuring out the optimum time and speed to draw. Another challenge was in lighting up her face without too much ghosting since the FL-50R flash was fired in slow shutter sync. Light Painting is an established photography genre and art form. Hope to bring you more such pictures and share with you the techniques.
