As the eve of Hari Raya approaches, the Ramadan bazaar at the Jalan Masjid India area attracts a surge of last-minute shoppers looking for slashed prices. The narrow alleys behind ‘Batu Road’ are where the action is. Explore with chin and camera up!
Little India in Klang comes alive as Deepavali approaches. The sights, the sounds, the smells and the traffic jams. Just like Little India Brickfields, indiscriminately-parked vehicles make the already-narrow street almost impassable. A small inconvenience as the bustle and honking add to the festive atmosphere at the bazaar 🙂
Jalan Tengku Kelana is located in the older and more historical part of Klang. The beautiful Indian Muslim Mosque is on one end while the century-old Our Lady of Lourdes Church is on the other. I like L. I. K.

For years, we been told that Leboh Ampang or the Masjid India area is the Little India of Kuala Lumpur. They were dethroned by Brickfields recently. Ironically after its ascension, the annual Deepavali bazaar at Brickfields seemed less frantic than previous years. Maybe the roads are now one-way and less congested. All the more, it is worth a last-minute visit to take in the sights and sounds of our brand new Little India…
Flying High, Soon?
It is three days to Deepavali and things have not really picked up. Maybe last-minute shopping is a Malaysian thing.
Flowers For Singh
To impress Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India, many things were put in place for his visit last week. We now have red-bricked roads with beautiful flower motifs.
Clay Elephant Sanctuary
One of the new attractions is this fountain at the mini roundabout. Fortunately, many of the old trees were spared execution. ‘The Pines’ nearby was not so lucky.
1Muruku
For me, one of the more fascinating new additions are the street lamps with intricate muruku spirals. Here, 1 muruku is seen against the backdrop of the 1 Sentral building.
Dirty But Gracious Girl
I asked this local resident if she can model next to the arches for me. She so graciously obliged. Please excuse the little soot on her chin and arm. That’s because of hanging by the roadside too much, I think 🙂
