Mooncakes By The Moonlight

Did you know that many of the nice food shots you see in glossy recipe books are photographed by a window? If you are a food blogger or like photographing your food, look for a seat near the window, if it is in the day. Half your lighting worries are over. Here, I used two Galaxy S3 LED lights to highlight the sliced pieces. The main “moon light” comes from the window at the back. White balance was tuned to be slightly blue. Conqueror Paper texture filter added with PicsPlay app.

The aunties from Angel Cake House are back as Joy Bakery. Shown here are their bite-size mini mooncakes. Great for those of you wanting to try this Mid Autumn Festival delicacy for the first time.

Ubudiah Mosque

The iconic, royal Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar is rarely seen as a silhouette. Understandably so, since it is a beautiful landmark when brightly lit. When I see a hazy sun, I see opportunity. Exposing for the sun created a nice and rarely seen silhouette of the multiple domes and minarets. The green filter was commonly used during film photography days. Coloured gels/filters designed for black and white film were used with  colour films for effects.

Built in 1917, Masjid Ubudiah was designed by architect Arthur Benison Hubback. He is also known for his Moorish designs of the Ipoh & KL Railway stations and Masjid Jamek.
