Line Clear

What do you get when you cross Starsky and Hutch with Siskel and Ebert? You get two thumbs up minus the guns. You still get the same menacing faces, though.

Funny thing about the crew at the iconic Penang restaurant named Line Clear is that whenever you point your camera at them, they will stop whatever they are doing and strike this pose. No smiles, no nothing. Just the same Clint Eastwood poker face with two thumbs up.

Line Clear is one of the oldest and most famous Indian-Muslim Nasi Kandar stalls in Penang. It operates from a side lane and is open 24-hours. Legend has it that the name was derived from shouts of relief when ‘night soil’ carriers finished rushing through the lane, back in the 1930s.

Dynas Mokhtar In The Spotlight

Met actress Dynas Mokhtar again today, after a long time. The beautiful former model and entrepreneur is now a proud mother of two. Fittingly, she is a brand ambassador for Re-Gen Oil from England. The newly introduced skin treatment is formulated for reducing stretch marks, scars, blemishes and wrinkled skin.

Since I had only one flash with me, I fired it directly for the catwalk look. The spotlight effect was created in Snapseed. Dynas told me this is her better side although I think she looks good from any angle 🙂

Big Joe’s No Frill

If you like roadside, charbroiled Australian lamb chops, the new Big Joe’s No Frill in SS2 might be the place for you. Their extensive menu range from beef goulash to Hokkien mee, with handmade pies thrown in. I am not sure the two burly guys running it are ex-bouncers or cops but it seems like a jolly partnership between Malays and Chinese 🙂

I tried their Chicken Cordon Bleu (photographed here). It is a boneless, breaded chicken roll with sausage, ham and cheese inside. Not bad for RM 12. The inside seating is very bright and great for photography. Outside it is dark, five-foot-way seating mamak-style but you get to see your lamb chop being grilled under a lamp post.

Big Joe’s Restaurant is at 44 Jalan SS 2/66, Petaling Jaya. Tel: 03 7865 6626. Opens daily from 5pm to 5am.
