British Malaya Coffee House

You have tried salted-fish fried rice but have you tried salted-egg fried rice? This and many other simple but interesting dishes are available at British Malaya in SS2, Petaling Jaya. It is a 24-hours outlet and a good place to keep in mind during a week-long holiday when many other eateries are closed.

A sign on the entrance says is pork-free and lard-free. British Malaya is at 58 & 60 Jalan SS 2 /67, 47300 Petaling Jaya. Tel: 03 7865 4015

The Big Kampung

In the old days, our newspapers would routinely feature a picture of a deserted Batu Road in front of Globe Silk Store. It was to show how deserted the city was during a major holiday and exodus.

Kuala Lumpur is no longer the ghost town it used to be during the Chinese New Year. Jalan Bukit Bintang (a.k.a. Jalan Urut Kaki), Jalan Alor and the Chinatown area were jam-packed with people and vehicles on the first night of Chinese New Year, last night. Millions were born here, grew up and have since made the city the only home they know.
