The much-anticipated ‘Magical Musicals’ premiered last Friday at Sunway Lagoon. Featuring some of Broadway and West End’s biggest hit songs, the show entertained and thrilled the capacity crowd non-stop. I spoke to director Chris Colby and choreographer David Kort after the gala opening and they too were pleasantly surprised by the response from our (normally subdued) audience.

In fact, towards the end of Stephen Weller’s stunning rendition of ‘Go The Distance’, the crowd broke into a (semi) standing ovation. Great singing, deft dancing and dazzling set design for ninety minutes! And I thought the ‘Grease’ segment alone was worth the price of admission. Buoyed by the recent success of Peter Pan The Musical, Sunway Lagoon is bringing us another spectacular musical this June. Journey to Times Square in New York where six budding performers seek fame, fortune and love on the streets of Broadway.

The 90-minute production will feature some of Broadway and West End’s biggest hits from three decades. Songs such as those from Moulin Rouge, Mamma Mia, Dreamgirls, Fame, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Footloose, We Will Rock You, West Side Story, Hairspray and even Glee.

Directed and choreographed by award-winning West End professionals, the show spans 2 acts with over 35 songs and performed by a cast of over 30 dancers and singers.
