Single Lens

I was in Chinatown earlier tonight and had only one lens with me. If you are to take only one fixed-focal lens (non-zoom), which will it be? It is a personal choice but I like the 50 mm (25mm in m43). It is neither too wide or too tight and as such is great for street use. Because it is a bright f1.4, the lighted signboards provided sufficient illumination and speed was a manageable 1/60th of a second, even at ISO 200.

Only limitation is the narrow plane of focus and you have to decide which you want to keep in sharp focus. Here, I focused on the lady. Pana-Leica Summilux paired with the Olympus OMD make a perfect night street photography combo.

Always dine with someone who is also using a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone or similar 🙂 Here, JM Bariani House’s mutton beriani rice with rose syrup was lit by two Galaxy 3 LED lights. One was held behind the glass and the other at the side of the plate. Photographed with Olympus OM-D and Pana-Leica Summilux. Colours muted with one of Snapseed’s vintage filters.

Por Tor

From last night, a montage of the Hokkien ‘Por Tor’ celebrations held in conjunction with the Hungry Ghost Month. Clockwise from top left:
(1) Every one seems to be taking pics with tablets.
(2) This cute cabbage patched dog is made from fresh cabbage.
(3) More tablet cams.
(4) A miniature Shaolin monk on flower seeds.
(5) Rows and rows of liquor bottles offered as sacrifice to thirsty ghosts.
(6) Lighting a joss stick for the Por Tor Kong deity.
(7) The 1Malaysia Hungry Ghost effigy. Yay!
