Wichita Lineman

A long telephone line connected by poles that lean in different directions. Alongside, is an undulating road with pools of water that turned out to be mirages. Wichita Lineman was playing on the radio and I felt like a storm chaser in rural Kansas. But I was driving from Jelebu to Segamat via the lonesome Keratong Road that tarverses three states.

At 7pm, there was blazing sunset on one side and blistering rain on the other. It was the golden hour, nevertheless. I stopped by the side, set the camera on the ground and used a 5-second exposure to turn the intermittent traffic into molten lava. The drops of water are splashes from the vehicles flying by.

“I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main road. Searchin’ in the sun for another overload…”

Mother Nature’s Christmas Tree

A fir tree is decorated like a Christmas Tree by Mother Nature herself. Out-of-focus rain and dew drops on the leaves and twigs appear like decorative Christmas tree lights and ornaments. All I had to do was to focus on the cone with the sun behind the water droplets.

This tree is located in the Botanical Gardens of the Forest Research Insitute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong. It is a wonderful place to jog, hike or explore with the camera. The nature park is surrounded by the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve.

Rice Bowl of Selangor

A combine harvester at work in the paddy fields of Sekinchan. The machine is so-called because it combines cutting, threshing and sieving into a single mechanical process. Located about 100 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur, the coastal area is known as the Rice Bowl of Selangor.
